Treating Scabies

The most commonly prescribed course of treatment is a prescription cream called Elimite. Elimite is applied to the body two times over the course of a week. Not only is Elimite extremely effective, but it is also safe for children as young as two months old. This is a big improvement over a previous scabies cream known as Kwell. Although Kwell was relatively successful, it was eventually discovered that it posed several health risks for younger children.
In addition to Elimite, there are several other treatment options that your doctor can choose from. For some, in addition to an anti-mite product such as Elimite, a medication may be necessary to help ease the itching sensations caused by scabies. Your doctor may prescribe an antihistamine, or may instead choose to recommend one that you can pick up from your local drug store.
